Millersville University
Department of Industry & Technology:
Occupational Safety & Environmental Health Program

For many years, the Lancaster County Industrial Safety Council annually awards a monetary contribution to Millersville University’s Occupational Safety & Environmental Health Degree Program. In the last ten years alone LCISC contributed over $20,000. These monies are used in a variety of ways. The monies donated in 2003/2004 alone were used to purchase scaffolding demonstration units (one fixed and one hanging), an electrical safety simulator, and a computer projector.

As Dr. Paul Specht, Professor, explains:

“Over the years, we have used those donations to purchase an entire classroom’s desks, carpeting, projector and teacher station. Those items moved from the old building into the newly renovated Osburn Hall.”

“We have also used those funds to purchase supplies to include:

“When the limited University budget evaporates early into an academic year, it has been extremely beneficial to our students that the LCISC funds are available. The safety faculty has been very careful in our use of those funds and always looks for ways to use them to benefit the largest number of students.”

“Many of the safety professionals in and around Lancaster County learned to use ‘tools of the trade’ here at Millersville University. It is a contribution that keeps on giving as the MU graduates enter the safety profession with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect the thousands of workers they meet every day.”

“There are other, non-monetary gifts the LCISC has given to Millersville University. Members have never refused an invitation to bring their expertise to our students. Some have served as adjunct professors, laboratory consultants and mentors to interns and new graduates. Now that is priceless!
